Why make this site?
While the homepage goes over the purpose of cut-out renders pretty well, I wanted to share a bit about why I made this site!
Outside of running Cutout Render World, I (Firebro999) am also a YouTube content creator and run a community Discord server revolving around video games. Often, my thumbnails and news posts needed to use video game art. I love official game art, but sometimes I needed to spice things up—I really didn't want to use the same renders over and over. A lot of thumbnails on YouTube look identical because of this, and I couldn't be as creative with my promotional pictures using the same static images.
The Inspo
That's why I love cutout renders! Basically, it's an in-game screenshot of a character, but isolated from the background entirely. What I love about these is that you can easily get them in a variety of actionable poses to spice up your graphics.
I started using some that I could find on the internet: one person who creates lots of them is TransparentJiggly64 on DeviantArt. Simply searching their name on Google Images instantly yields hundreds of isolated character images. Many YouTubers, including myself, used these to make thumbnails far more interesting. Another person with a great collection (mainly for Smash Ultimate) is a graphic designer named KryZenGraphics. They kindly shared a folder of their renders with me!
Building the Library
Those two were my main inspiration for isolating cutout renders myself! Not long after, I started isolating renders for Smash Ultimate and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 1 & 2, mainly so I didn't always have to go searching online.
I decided to share those folders with friends, and eventually dropped the Google Drive links into some competitive communities. I started getting a lot of requests from people wanting access to my folder, so I thought to myself... I already work as a web developer. Why not just make a whole website that acts as a public repository?
That way, I don't have to worry about Google Drive's limits, and people can directly check out the site to find exactly what they need. And thus, Cutout Render World was born!
